Hi everyone ๐
We have been having lots of fun in the Caterpillar Room, so its been such a great month for our Caterpillars.
First I would like to thank all our wonderful parents for helping out with the children’s learning. We appreciate it when you write what happened over the weekend on the sheet when signing in. We have now started doing our class mascot, and for the Caterpillars its Blue from Blues Clues. We are encouraging the children to take their mascot with them when they go out and to play with her. Each week Blue will go to a different family for different adventures. Please remember to bring her back each week so our other friends can also participate in this activity.
This month we celebrated Naidoc Week 2014, to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander cultures. The children loved seeing what boomerangs look like and even having a go at throwing them, reading dreamtime stories, doing their own dot painting and listening to their teachers trying to play the didgeridoo ๐ This is a fantastic opportunity to expand their knowledge on different cultures around the world.
A few of our friends had been doing some gardening and playing in the park over the weekends, so the Caterpillars decided to design their own garden. We made lovely ladybeetles, dragonflies, caterpillars and some beautiful flowers. Our garden is hanging up just near the doors entry on the left. We read all about the things we find in the garden and at parks and we even decided to go outside, have a look at our garden and the plants growing. We picked some of the rocket that we have been growing and ate it with our salad at lunch yum yum ๐
I’m sure most parents would have heard the song “Let it Go’ from the new Disney movie Frozen. It gets requested quite a few times through the day, so both Cindy and I have decided to extend that interest and to take the opportunity to teach them new things. Our Caterpillars have learnt about snow and what snowflakes can look like and how no two snowflakes are the same. We will be doing some experiments with water and freezing and watching how long it takes ice to melt on those warmer days so we don’t get too cold ๐
Because it is still winter please remember to bring your child in nice warm clothes. I would like to take this opportunity to also remind parents to please bring sheets and a nice warm blanket for our little Caterpillars. We store all of their sheets in separate bags with labels on them so we don’t get them mixed up.
Thank you once again for being so wonderful. If you have any goals that you want your child to achieve let us know so we can help you, or if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. See you next month.
Kindest regards,
Sarah xoxo
